People with disabilities and Deaf people are under attack—excluded, criminalized, and stripped of essential protections at every level of society.
Women and girls with disabilities and Deaf women and girls are abused at three to five times the rate of everyone else. Only one in ten ever reaches someone who can actually help.
But that gap has nothing to do with how much they need help. The shelters, the hotlines, the courts, the systems built to protect survivors were never designed with these women in mind. So a survivor does the hardest thing there is to do; she finds a way to leave, she reaches out, and the place that was supposed to be her safe harbor cannot understand her.
That is a second harm on top of the first, and it is entirely preventable.
Justice for Every Body unites disability justice, survivor advocacy, and criminal legal system reform to close that gap. We work with the people who run these systems, and with the people those systems have failed, to make safety something every survivor can actually reach.
As accessibility services disappear and unjust policies escalate, the risk of harm and incarceration grows.
